“[On his defeated amendment to apply the bill's rules to coaches' salaries:] If the bill supporters believe these rules are necessary for athletes, they should be willing to apply them to coaches, as well. This bill sells out college athletes.
“What bothers me is not only this violation of the Constitution, but remember, in unprecedented ways he's using his Justice Department to persecute reporters. … He has basically said, 'If you break stories on me I don't like, my Justice Department is going to investigate you.' … This President has no regard for the First Amendment. He's going after reporters, and this ban just doubled down on that.
“While a college student and player, I saw just how unjust the NCAA is. It's a monopoly controlling $15 billion … and rapidly growing. “This is not the first death of a detainee at Delaney Hall, and absent decisive action, it will not be the last. Delaney Hall must be closed immediately and permanently.
“He is wholly unqualified. He will prioritize loyalty to President Trump rather than serve as an independent law enforcement leader. I do not believe Todd Blanche has the votes to be confirmed as Attorney General.
“Immigrants at Delaney Hall are on a hunger strike because they are fighting for their human rights. The conditions there are deplorable. We're working with our partners in the state to bring an end to this nightmare and I'll be going to Delaney Hall again to conduct oversight.

The same deal he criticized, he's already doing worse than.
“The DOJ indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that has spent more than half a century fighting the Klan, tracking hate, and defending civil rights. Let's be clear about what's happening. This administration is using the full weight of federal prosecution to target an organization whose mission is rooting out violent extremism. This is part and parcel of Trump's assault on free speech, on nonprofits, and on anyone who dares to disagree with him. First it was lawfare against political opponents. Then it was revoking the tax status of universities. Now it's a federal indictment against one of the most historic civil rights organizations in America. The SPLC has saved lives. It will not be silenced — and neither will we.
