“Americans are calling on ICE to deescalate its immigration enforcement tactics, and the Administration needs to nominate someone who will right the ship, provide transparency, and restore the accountability Americans expect from law enforcement. … Despite the public's urging, we now have an agency that has been engaging in increasingly questionable and escalatory behavior and refuses to be transparent and accountable to the American people.
“Despite repeated warnings from Congress and court orders not to implement the President's unlawful directives to regulate mail-in voting, the Postal Service continues to carry out these actions, which will undermine peoples' faith in the upcoming elections.
“Notwithstanding the major legal deficiencies with the final rule, the Postal Service's continued insistence that it can successfully build, test, train, and deploy an entirely new system for processing millions of absentee ballots – just weeks prior to the November general election – risks disrupting the smooth administration of the midterms and disenfranchising voters.
“If the Postal Service does not immediately reverse its current course, it will inflict lasting harm to our democracy and permanently damage a storied American institution.
“The toll this unauthorized, disastrous war is taking on our troops is unconscionable. Troops are suffering because of this Administration's inability to end this war or make the environment safe enough for our servicemembers to be delivered the food, medication or supplies they need.
“No elected official should be able to sell early access to market-moving information for their own profit.
“The hearing is a partisan exercise.
“Given the urgent financial, policy, and service issues facing the USPS and the critical role the Board plays in ensuring the Postal Service fulfills its public service mission, it is imperative that the President nominate and the Senate confirm well-qualified nominees from both political parties. Advancing only nominees from one party and failing to consult with the minority unnecessarily politicizes the Postal Service and undermines its statutory independence.
“We are doing this whole irresponsible and hyper-partisan spending exercise because the Republican majority does not want to pass common-sense reforms that would rein in ICE and hold agencies accountable.
