“The law is extremely clear: The John F. Kennedy Center is named for President Kennedy — and no one else. But President Trump is holding the Kennedy Center hostage unless he can put his name on this sacred memorial.
“It was the most unprofessional thing that I've ever witnessed or been a part of. … He went into name-calling, from everything from trying to say that I was an obstructionist, I was dumb. … He didn't get his vanity project. He didn't get his name on it for the second time. … He said he was going to hold me responsible if something fell out of the ceiling and killed someone.
“Donald Trump's handpicked Board is playing a dangerous game with the law. The Defendants have repeatedly ignored the law, flouted the Court's rulings, and threatened the destruction of the Kennedy Center in the name of one man's vanity. I'll always stand up for the law and against the Trump administration's unlawfulness and corruption.
“The board’s repeated efforts to break the law are a breathtaking act of defiance, but I will continue to stand up against all unlawful acts — enough is enough. The Kennedy Center is a sacred space that belongs to the American people. At every turn, Trump’s handpicked Board has flouted court orders and attempted to circumvent the law.
“It’s deja vu all over again. Now, in a new and breathtaking act of defiance of Congress and of this Court, Defendants have voted to return President Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center’s facade.
“This morning's decision to close the Center and the surprise agenda item to put Donald Trump's name back on the building was more of the same. This latest development is a transparent effort to circumvent the Court's ruling, and flies in the face of the statutes that Congress passed. I will continue to fight for this treasured national monument.
“No one is above the law—not even a cabinet secretary
