“The idea that we're actually going to now weaken one of the few pillars of sanity we have, which is the annual bipartisan appropriations process... The whole reason I became an independent is because I think that extreme partisanship here has completely run amok, and it's doing real damage to the country.
“It's very strange, very unprecedented. It's very concerning. I don't know why anyone is receiving money from this fund and I think there should be congressional oversight into how the fund came to be and the criteria for any distributions.
“Recent Ukrainian gains have created an opportunity for peace, but the collapse of the recent ceasefire shows that leverage is needed for diplomacy to succeed. Congress can act now, in a bipartisan way, to strengthen that leverage and advance a durable peace that protects the interests of the United States and our allies. We must also send a strong message that Russian support for Iran's targeting of U.S. military assets will not be tolerated.
