“The president's point is that there has been a lot of fake news, there has been a lot of, he's been treated very unfairly. But, we'll see how that shakes out. There has been a lawsuit filed. We'll see how it shakes out. … I've been greatly frustrated that he's gotten such unfair treatment in the press. And some of those outlets have been pretty brutal to him and they have said things that are blatantly untrue. They do it about me as well.
“The House has done its work. It's time for our members to go home to their districts and make their case to the American people.
“For too long, Putin has bankrolled this devastating war with money and resources from countries willing to look the other way, and today, that ends. … [The bill] gives the Administration every tool in the toolbox to help bring this war to a just end.
“It's a publicity stunt by someone who wants attention. … Secretary Hegseth has done an extraordinary job. … It will immediately be tabled, of course. But we probably won't do that today. … It's time for our members to go home to their districts and make the case to the American people.
“AI companies have a serious responsibility to earn the trust of the communities they invest in and to be good neighbors. The Ratepayer Protection Act guarantees hardworking American families won't foot the bill for the buildout of AI infrastructure — or see their energy costs rise to pay for it.
“If the Senate works together and moves some of these important pieces of legislation, I will bring the House back on 48-hours' notice.
“It's ridiculous to suggest that canceling Thursday's votes was meant to avoid the vote on impeaching Hegseth.
“They can self-police, they can self regulate. They don't need the government to tell them to slow it down.
“[I expect the president to summon AI platform leaders for a] deliberate discussion about the responsibility of the companies to maintain safety and what role, if any, the government has to play in that. … [We need to] go in a big room, close the door and sort this out.
“We cannot put a moratorium on this because China will overlap us. That's the challenge. … If Congress just races in and does some sort of emergency session to try to regulate AI, we will lose the race to China, and that is a threat to every single American. … There is an obvious corporate responsibility that the people who are creating these models have to have to ensure that their products are safe.
“I commit that Congress will work through it and find consensus on that, like I have to do everything else. … I never go out and give big commitments on the front end because I've got to work through it, and that's what we do every single day. … I'll work with the president hand in hand, as I do all the time, and we'll deliver for the American people.
“The war is not continuing. What we're trying to do now is resolve what has already been a big success. … We believe it'll be resolved soon.
“This Congress has done phenomenal work, and the members are jostling a lot of different priorities right now.
“Some of them need to be in the district on those two days, Sept. 9 and 10.
“For members of Congress who swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, condemning socialism and defending the integrity of the Supreme Court shouldn't be a controversial vote. Sadly, for today's Democrats, they are.
“Now you've heard the Democrat Socialists of America, the communist socialists and Democrat Party, who are taking the party over.
“House Republicans are in charge here, and we’re continuing to do the grown-up thing and make sure we get the job done. And we’re happy that we just passed that continuing resolution to fund the government through early December, and then we’ll continue through the process after the election.
“Yes, and he has been a great member of Congress. He has some issues in his personal life he's working through. The House Ethics Committee is looking into that, and any implications it may have. And as usual, you know, I've said it a thousand times, we have to let due process play out.
“The first thing is we've got to make sure this government gets funded and we don't have another Democratic shutdown.
