With today's vote, House and Senate Republicans have officially ended the third Democrat government shutdown of this Congress. And here's the end result of Democrats' record-setting obstruction: CBP and ICE will now be funded for the remainder of President Trump's term and Democrats will have no ability to defund these agencies in the 119th or 120th Congresses. We have three full years of funding. What we've done now by funding it for three years, we've taken away [Democrats'] ability to cut that funding, to block that funding or to take hostage the funding for the remainder of the Trump administration.

President Trump is the ONLY one who could have gotten Iran — the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism — to the negotiating table. We are greatly encouraged to learn a PEACE DEAL in Iran is underway — and look forward to learning more about the specifics. We'll get the Strait of Hormuz reopened, which will be great for gas prices here and stability around the world.

Sometimes when you have a small margin as we do, people have different ideas, different priorities about very contentious pieces of legislation, but we got it done because ultimately we just used patience and frankly prayer. Democrats got absolutely nothing for their political charade and shenanigans.

I was taken a little bit aback, just honestly, frankly, by something that he said about those who engage in war, that Jesus doesn't hear their prayers. There's something called the just war doctrine. There's a time to every purpose under heaven. I'm not one to criticize clerics — a pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want. But obviously if you wade into political waters, I think you should expect some political response, and I think the pope's received some of that. These are matters that people of good faith and good sense can debate and think through.

We appreciate and share the President's determination to once and for all bring an end to the Democrat DHS shutdown. In the coming days, Republicans in the Senate and House will be following through on the President's directive by fully funding the entire Department of Homeland Security on two parallel tracks: through the appropriations process and through the reconciliation process.

The Democrat's DHS shutdown strategy is clear: Block paychecks for TSA officers and force Americans to wait in lines at airports across the country. It's madness.

Passing a war powers resolution at this moment would be a frightening prospect. It would take the ability of our commander in chief, the president, take his authority away right now to finish this job. The operation has been necessary, lawful and effective. Reversing course would play right into the hands of the enemy.
