Trump Backs Turning Part of His West Palm Beach Golf Club Into a Camp David-Style Presidential Retreat — "This Wouldn't Be for Me. This Would Be for All Future Presidents" — While Darren Soto Says Florida "Already Has a Southern White House" and Debbie Wasserman Schultz Calls Him "the Most Corrupt President Ever"

On Oct. 7, 2026, it emerged that the Trump Organization had proposed to Palm Beach County that part of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach be designated a U.S. presidential golf course with a presidential lodging facility, built in cooperation with the General Services Administration and the Secret Service. In a letter from club attorney Harvey Oyer, the club offered to pay for construction if the county provided part of the land to the federal government, comparing the idea to Camp David, Windsor Castle and the Élysée Palace. County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo called it a "historic opportunity"; the county commission has not voted. Asked about it in the Oval Office the same day, Trump called it "a great idea," said it had been suggested by the military and the Secret Service, and said it would be for future presidents rather than himself. A White House official confirmed interest in the plan. Florida Democrats in Congress called it self-dealing.

“[In the Oval Office, asked about the proposal:] This was suggested to me by the military and Secret Service. … They asked if I'd be willing to do it, and I said I would be. … This wouldn't be for me. This would be for all future presidents. … It's about as safe as they could possibly get. You don't have houses with people hiding behind windows. … [I]t seems that all presidents play golf. [Asked whether it would be called "Camp Donald":] It's already called Trump International.”
