“Democrats have repeatedly said that they want to pay TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA and employees who defend America from cyber attacks. This bill would do it. The time to end this is now.
“The Trump administration's actions are consistent with what previous administrations have done in prior conflicts. The president was perfectly within his rights to take the steps that he took.
“Senate Democrats have chosen not to fund the department and have held this department hostage. As a result, critical national security missions, including border security, immigration enforcement, aviation security, disaster response, cybersecurity and the protection of critical infrastructure are all being strained.
“Despite the dogged efforts of the president and his administration, the Iranian regime has refused the diplomatic off-ramps that would peacefully resolve these national security concerns. Iran posed a clear and unacceptable threat to U.S. servicemembers.
“I'm not in favor of federalizing elections, no. I think that's a constitutional issue. I'm a big believer in decentralized and distributed power. And I think it's harder to hack 50 election systems than it is to hack one. In my view, at least, that's always a system that has worked pretty well.
