“The Senate's failure to pass my War Powers Resolution is a slap in the face to the millions of American people who want this war to end. The Senate had the opportunity to send a clear message to this administration that they would not stand for another day of his war of choice. Instead, a majority of Senate Republicans acted as a cult party and stood by Trump's unpopular and devastating war. In the House, we will continue to pass these resolutions and demand an end to the war. It is time to reassert Congress's constitutional authority to declare war.
“So — our US wannabe authoritarian ruler has decided to ditch democracy in South Korea for the authoritarian rules in North Korea that he so admires?
“Taken together, the interventions conducted under the banner of the “Donroe” Doctrine appear to follow a partisan playbook: the endorsement of favored candidates, the placement of political allies, the weaponization of tariffs and sanctions, and, where those fail, the application of direct military force.
“This is a critically important opportunity to build solidarity in the fight against interventionism and democratic backsliding, and to learn how the United States can be a partner in those efforts.
“This is an agency that has already killed more than 50 people in its custody. And now they want new tools to hurt people, tools designed to disrupt someone's ability to even respond.
“The president is once again showing his contempt for Congress and for the Constitution, continuing this destructive, deadly, and costly war despite Congress having already passed a War Powers Resolution that has the force of law.
“This is a vote that requires us to find the strength to do what is right for the American people, and to send the clearest, even stronger message to this president of the United States that the United States Congress, the House of Representatives, is reasserting our authority over war. This war must end.
“Instead of working to help the American people, as so many cannot keep the lights on, keep food on the table, or pay their rent, Nancy Mace is instead introducing racist legislation that denies the very history of a country that has been proudly shaped by immigrants. This is also insulting to the hundreds of thousands of constituents who elected naturalized citizens into office.
“It is an outrage that the American taxpayers are having to pay for this and that we have a president who is exercising such open corruption in front of everyone and expecting us to go along with it.
“I have been clear since the start of the appropriations process: I will not vote to give Trump's ICE or CBP another cent without major reforms. ICE and CBP agents have killed American citizens on the streets, terrorized communities, and forever traumatized families and children.
