Feds Search Ilhan Omar's Home Before Midterms
Three Weeks Before the Midterms, Federal Agents Search Ilhan Omar's Washington Home Before Dawn in a Criminal Probe Reportedly Tied to Her Childhood Immigration Papers — Omar Says "I Will Not Be Silenced," House Democratic Leaders Call It "Deeply Disturbing," and Tom Homan Confirms "a Search Warrant Was Executed This Morning, Signed by a Judge"
October 12, 2026
Early on Monday, October 12, 2026, agents from Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C.-area home. The Justice Department said the "judicially authorized search warrant" it had secured was "part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation," without naming Omar; people familiar with the probe told Fox News and others it concerns immigration paperwork her late father filled out when she was a child. Omar has not been charged. The search came 22 days before the November 3 midterms, with early voting already under way in Minnesota, and despite longstanding Justice Department practice against overt investigative steps near an election. Border czar Tom Homan, who said in September that Omar was under criminal investigation, confirmed the warrant on Fox. Two days earlier, at a Tennessee rally, President Trump had said of Omar, "let's see what happens. JD Vance and our people are looking at it very strongly." Omar called the search "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." House Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar called it "deeply disturbing," Gov. Tim Walz said Trump was "abusing his power to go after political opponents weeks before an election," and Sen. Tina Smith called it "a transparent attempt to interfere in our elections." Republican Reps. Tom Emmer and Nancy Mace answered that no one is above the law.

“[Joint statement with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar:] The Trump administration's raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government. For years, Donald Trump and far-right extremists have relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Omar with vile personal attacks and baseless accusations. Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress. … The American people deserve transparency, [and House Democrats] will deliver full accountability for the rogue abuse of power from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice.
“[Statement:] I'm outraged by this attack on Representative Omar. … This latest action, even as voting has already started in Minnesota, is a transparent attempt to interfere in our elections. … Minnesota won't stand for it.
“[On X, after the search, saying Omar should be stripped of her U.S. citizenship and deported if fraud is proven:] NO ONE is above the law.
“[On X, after the search:] I'm ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

“[At a campaign rally in Tennessee, two days before the search:] How about Ilhan Omar? She comes from Somalia. She comes from Somalia. They don't have a government. They don't have police. They don't. All they have is crime and squalor. And she comes into our country, and she says, 'My constitution allows me.' She's talking about our constitution, what they've done to Minnesota, these people from Somalia, what they've done to Minnesota, should never be allowed. And let's see what happens. … JD Vance and our people are looking at it very strongly.
