“This has been grossly abused in recent years. I'm very disappointed in that outcome.

“This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.
“Today, we just offered a simple, clean, three-week extension of the FISA national security law. The Democrats, 199 of them, voted against a clean, three-week extension for political purposes.
“With today's vote, House and Senate Republicans have officially ended the third Democrat government shutdown of this Congress. And here's the end result of Democrats' record-setting obstruction: CBP and ICE will now be funded for the remainder of President Trump's term and Democrats will have no ability to defund these agencies in the 119th or 120th Congresses. We have three full years of funding. What we've done now by funding it for three years, we've taken away [Democrats'] ability to cut that funding, to block that funding or to take hostage the funding for the remainder of the Trump administration.
“This is a piece that Democrats have said they don't want to fund because they want open borders. They have made it crystal clear, the Democrat Party in Washington, that they want to go back to open borders. And we're not going to do that.
“We just need to make sure everybody's there.
“The president is now in the process of concluding a peace agreement, and we have to allow him the latitude to do that.
“The entire world has an interest in the Strait of Hormuz being reopened for commerce.
“[Johnson predicted that a deal with Iran would bring gas prices down and be "a big thing" for the US midterm elections.]
“President Trump is the ONLY one who could have gotten Iran — the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism — to the negotiating table. We are greatly encouraged to learn a PEACE DEAL in Iran is underway — and look forward to learning more about the specifics. We'll get the Strait of Hormuz reopened, which will be great for gas prices here and stability around the world.
“He votes with the Democrats…and has been a thorn in my side for a LONG TIME. We need team players…who understand the America First agenda!
“We're ready to move tomorrow … let's urge them to get it done as quickly as possible.
“I don't actually see any legal precedent for that. We are a nation of laws, you can't just make up things whole-piece. People are concerned about making their own ends meet, not about putting a slush fund together without a legal precedent.
“While I support the administration's efforts to dismantle Iran's nuclear program, the White House and Pentagon have left Congress in the dark on Operation Epic Fury. In Louisiana, I've heard from people, including President Trump's supporters, who are concerned about this war. Until the administration provides clarity, no congressional authorization or extension can be justified.
“People are concerned about paying their mortgage or rent, affording groceries and paying for gas, not about putting together a $1.8 billion fund for the President and his allies to pay whomever they wish with no legal precedent or accountability. This is adding to our national debt. If there needs to be a settlement, the administration should bring it to Congress to decide.
“Dr. Makary was part of a broader symptom of an administration that has not paid attention to pro-life issues. I care deeply about life, and I anticipate the next FDA nominee shall as well.
“Louisiana deserves two seats where Black voters get a say in who represents them.
“The best way to end race-based discrimination is to stop making decisions based on race. Here in Louisiana, we're proud to lead the nation on this charge. This executive order ensures we uphold the rule of law while giving the Legislature the time it needs to pass a fair and lawful congressional map.
“I expect a court challenge to the governor's move. It's certainly possible both majority-Black districts in Louisiana could be redrawn. We're going to have to fight this every step of the way.
“Dr. Means was asked direct questions about vaccines that she could not answer. The Surgeon General must have the full confidence of the American people on matters of public health. I look forward to meeting with Dr. Saphier.
“Sometimes when you have a small margin as we do, people have different ideas, different priorities about very contentious pieces of legislation, but we got it done because ultimately we just used patience and frankly prayer. Democrats got absolutely nothing for their political charade and shenanigans.
“Black voters in this country should have some relief from the court. And this court basically said they do not. You can't take the Voting Rights Act into consideration unless you take race into consideration.
“It's certainly possible both majority-Black districts in Louisiana could be redrawn. In 2026, we shouldn't still be fighting about these things, but we are, and it's a reality.
“Today's decision by the Supreme Court is a devastating blow to the promise of equal representation in our democracy. This ruling is about far more than lines on a map — it's about whether Black Louisianians will have a meaningful opportunity to make their voices heard.
“Kelly and I were at the event tonight, and we're thankful no innocent people were harmed and everyone is now safe. We're grateful as always for the law enforcement and first responders who acted so quickly to bring the situation under control.
“This is the last train leaving the station.
“In the coming days, the House will be working closely with the Senate as they commence on that reconciliation process. The sequencing is important. We've got to make sure that we don't isolate and, as I say, make an orphan out of key agencies of the department.
“We'll figure this out. We've got lots of discussion today and in the coming days to make sure we can get that through and I think we will.
“We were very close tonight.
“I was taken a little bit aback, just honestly, frankly, by something that he said about those who engage in war, that Jesus doesn't hear their prayers. There's something called the just war doctrine. There's a time to every purpose under heaven. I'm not one to criticize clerics — a pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want. But obviously if you wade into political waters, I think you should expect some political response, and I think the pope's received some of that. These are matters that people of good faith and good sense can debate and think through.
