Trump Fires Attorney General Pam Bondi

April 2, 2026

President Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi on April 2, 2026, after growing frustrated with her handling of the Epstein files and her failure to aggressively prosecute his political opponents. Deputy AG Todd Blanche was installed as acting AG, with EPA administrator Lee Zeldin under consideration as a permanent replacement.

Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector.

Over her tenure, Pam Bondi helped bring violent crime down to historic lows. The Justice Department has been more responsive to my congressional oversight requests than any prior administration I've worked with — Republican or Democrat. Safety and transparency ought to remain the Justice Department's core focus. The Judiciary Committee stands ready to advance President Trump's next Attorney General nominee.

Pam Bondi is a great friend and one of the best lawyers I've ever met. She did an incredible job as Florida's Attorney General when I was Governor, and she has been an incredible U.S. Attorney General.

Pam Bondi's legacy will be the weaponization of the world's preeminent law enforcement agency for Donald Trump's personal benefit, but apparently even she didn't go far enough to appease him. Donald Trump wants an unyielding loyalist who will cover up his crimes, prosecute his perceived enemies, and carry out his bidding — even if it means endangering the American people and violating the Constitution.

Pam Bondi was merely a symptom of Donald Trump's chronic allergy to our nation's laws. Pam Bondi oversaw an unprecedented weaponization of the Justice Department that brought our nation's rule of law to its knees — countless and baseless political investigations, hundreds of career law enforcement professionals purged, a massive cover-up of the Epstein files.

Under AG Pam Bondi, the DOJ became a cesspool of corruption. Good riddance. Bondi will be remembered for blocking the release of the Epstein files, weaponizing the DOJ to go after Trump's political opponents, and handing out merger approvals as political favors.

To put it bluntly, Pam Bondi has been a terrible AG. I didn't vote for her because I knew she wouldn't defend DOJ's independence and we've seen that play out. Somehow her allegiance to Trump wasn't enough. It's alarming to hear he may seek someone even more subservient and willing to weaponize the justice system for personal, financial, and political gain.

Pam Bondi's disastrous tenure as Attorney General has come to an end, but the consequences of her weaponization of the Justice Department will reverberate for years to come. Under Pam Bondi, the DOJ irresponsibly rubber stamped investigations into Donald Trump's perceived political enemies, tried to coerce states into surrendering their voter rolls, pushed out career prosecutors and civil servants, and dodged accountability and transparency over the Epstein files.

If the reports that Lee Zeldin will be replacing Pam Bondi as Attorney General are true — I welcome it. Bondi handled the Epstein Files in a terrible manner and made this situation far worse than it had to be for President Trump.

Pam Bondi's tenure will be remembered as a profound betrayal not only of the Department of Justice but of the American people. She transformed the people's Department of Justice into the President's private instrument of vengeance.

The Epstein files cover up took down Bondi. @RepThomasMassie and I have been calling for accountability since she violated our Epstein Transparency Act. Bondi must still answer to Congress about the remaining documents, why we have no new prosecutions, and why she participated in a cover-up.
